COME CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2011 -- 4PM TO 8PM BOSTON COMMON -- BANDSTAND
”I Can Bring the Peace”
Free and Open to the Public - Rain or Shine
The United Nations established September 21st as the International Day of Peace in 2002. As the International Day of Peace approaches this year, we hear frequently of yet another death due to violence that has occurred in our Commonwealth and deaths elsewhere in the world due to conflict and warfare.
We deeply desire peace. By promoting positive transformation within our community and within ourselves, we can effect change for peace globally. On this day we seek to provide uplifting activities to foster the spirit of peace in creative ways, both locally and internationally. We strive to resolve conflict and better humanity through truth, justice, and reconciliation, using our capacity for unconditional love and forgiveness. We seek, through understanding, respect, and celebration of different cultures and religions, to unite beyond these differences and progress to peace in our homes, communities, and the world. We aim to promote a culture of peace, harmony, and social justice through greater awareness of and constructive involvement in the world around us.
The program will feature music, dance, and messages of hope and commitment. Organizations working for peace will distribute information. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please join us and share the visions of peace which are at the heart of all of our communities.
